Make sure the company performs a thorough inspection of the possible affected areas. This means that the company will have to figure out where the water is coming from which may require the use of specialized equipment. Once identified, the areas that need to be treated will first have to dried out. In addition to the drying, sanitizing and deoderizing are a must as well. Dehumidifiers and giant fans, that are extremely noisey, air scrubbers and other tools will be left at the residence for at least 2 to 3 days after the labor portion of the job is complete. When that time period has passed, the company will return to perform an evaluation to see if everything is going okay. It is at that time that they may remove whatever equipment is no longer necessary.
The amount of contamination in the water will decide which of the three categories the damage will come under.
- Category 1 is water from a clean or sanitary source. – Category 2 is water with some level of contaminants that could cause discomfort or illness if ingested. – Category 3 water is grossly unsanitary, and can lead to illness or death if ingested.
Move items out of the area that are not damaged and may get in the way of the company performing the restoration. Reason being is that if they have to move it you will be charged for it.
Do not hesitate to ask the company any questions.
The job is done when the levels of moisture, temperature and humidity reach an acceptable level.
Carelessness is not okay. To stay on top of the company, know the guidelines. If they are not, it is okay to ask why they are doing it different.
