Creating a special space just for your guy or yourself, is actually pretty easy and can be very rewarding. If your space is in the garage there are some simple tips for transforming the garage into a very comfortable place to ‘chill’.
You might have thought of dividing the living room into two sections to accomplish your task of creating a special space. Maybe the idea of building an outdoor shed appealed to you. Doing these things aren’t necessary because you can make a special room out of an existing and unexpected part of your house. Ever thought of the garage? Yes, the garage can be your special space (your car will be glad to have your company) and with some simple renovating techniques, you are on your way to relaxing in a new hangout room.
Decide first how much space you need and how much work you’re willing to do. The garage may have a limited space compared to the basement as a big space is allotted for your car. However, the garage has more points in the unique and creative factors compared to the basement. Whichever room you choose, both are easy to decorate with the right materials.
Organize. Have a shelf or storage cabinet for storing the tools and other stuff in the garage. It will tidy up everything and it will help you find things faster. You won’t believe how the room will look much more airy with no litter and things loitering on the floor. You can install pegs to hang heavier tools and allot a space for equipment. From now on, don’t lean your grass mower in your car. Place it in the appropriate section of the garage.
If your room includes a workshop of some sort, a tool board is a great way to keep your tools orderly and able to locate easily. You can hang the tools where you would like them to be kept and then either mask the tools or just paint them. Spray paint the board with the tools in place. When it dries, you will have a shadow of the tool so it can easily be replaced in the proper place.
Have some furniture such as chair, TV, stereo and table to complete the look of a place of relaxation.
Complete the look by decorating with an area rug.
If you choose a larger area rug, you can place the furniture pieces on the perimeter of the rug. However, if you only have one piece of furniture on the rug’s border, it will look like you have the wrong size area rug and ran out of space. If all or at least a couple pieces are placed on the border of the rug, then the area will be anchored by the area rug and it will appear cohesive.
Painting the garage a new color will make it easier for you to choose the area rug. It has to match the rest of the room and enhance the furnishings well so that the room will look coordinated. You wouldn’t want the area rug to ruin the room.
The kind of area rug will depend on your furnishings. A rug made of cotton will soften the look of the room especially if you have furnishings with sharp angles or solid colors. A bamboo rug also looks good with materials made of hardwood. Persian rug may look too fancy for a garage or basement. Nevertheless, it will not fail to make the room look more elegant. If you have an extra piece to spare, then why not?
With these steps, your garage will never be just a space for your car and long forgotten items.
